Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE YOUR RUGS MADE FROM?

Each one-of-a-kind handwoven reversible rug is made from high-quality recycled Pendleton Mills wool selvage (the trimmed edges of Pendleton blankets) and a cotton warp. The rugs have a 1" woven cotton hem on the ends, which is open on both sides to allow a rod to be inserted for hanging, if desired.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY RUG?

Handwoven wool rugs are made to last when given the following care:

  • Shake rug out or vacuum with a smooth attachment.

  • Use a non-slip pad underneath rug if placed on a wood or tile floor.

  • Spot clean gently with mild soap and water.

  • Dry cleaning recommended.

  • If you choose to wash your wool rug, please consider one of these options:
    1. SOAK: Shake out rug before washing. Gently soak rug in COLD water (no detergent) by hand or in a washing machine. Squeeze excess water out by rolling in towels, or spin dry on low in washer. Lay flat to dry away from sun.
    2. HAND WASH: Shake out rug. Soak in COLD water with Woolite for several minutes without rubbing . Squeeze suds gently through rug, then rinse thoroughly in cold water. Squeeze excess water out by rolling in towels, or spin dry on low in washer. Lay flat to dry away from sun.
    3. GENTLE MACHINE WASH: Shake out rug. Wash in COLD water on GENTLE cycle in front loading washer (NO agitator) with Woolite. Rinse in cold water, then spin dry on low. Lay flat to dry away from sun.

  • IMPORTANT: Use as little agitation as possible when washing. DO NOT dry your rug in a dryer. Your rug is primarily made of Pendleton wool (and some cotton), so please treat it as you would a fine wool sweater.
    4. CLEAN YOUR RUG IN THE SNOW: This is frequently done in Scandinavian countries. It really works! Follow this link for instructions. Here are a few additional tips from experienced rug weavers: 1. You want dry light powder, not heavy wet snow. If you can easily make a snowball, do not attempt this. 2. Snow doesn't get stuck on the carpet if you let it cool outdoors before touching the snow. 3. Lay your rug on clean snow, then beat your rug several times on both sides and keep using new snow. Beating lets debris/dust freeze and fall out. Then pile some snow on top and leave for ~5-10 minutes to help brighten and deodorize. 4. Shake off excess snow and hang the rug outside for a couple of hours. Not only does this kill off dust mites & any carpet beetles, it allows sublimation of any remaining snow, so the rug is dry when brought indoors.
